ELEHEAR Alpha Pro Hearing Aids Review

ELEHEAR, a relatively new player in the hearing health arena, initially gained recognition for its AI algorithms that it licensed to tech giants like Lenovo for their laptops and phones. In time the company decided to pivot towards hearing health and, in 2023 launched an OTC hearing aid, ELEHEAR Alpha Pro. We recently got our hands on pair and this review delves into the design, functionality, and overall user experience offered by the Alpha Pro, offering insights into its performance in the competitive market of hearing aids.

Product Design

The Alpha Pro uses a receiver-in-canal (RIC) design, a popular choice for its balance between performance, comfort and discreteness. The Alpha Pro device, which sits behind the ear, features a thin wire extending over the ear to a speaker placed within the ear canal. Alpha Pro offers a 20-hour battery life per charge, with the convenience of seven additional charges through its portable power bank.

Aesthetically, the Alpha Pro aligns with market standards, providing a range of ear tips for customization and comfort. The hearing aid incorporates a rocker switch for easy mode and volume adjustments, emphasizing user-friendly operation.

Connectivity and Performance

ELEHEAR offers a straightforward Bluetooth connection compatible with both Android and iOS devices. The streaming quality rivals that of market leaders with simpler than average connection steps. It took us less than a minute to unbox and connect the devices.

Bluetooth Connectivity: Seamless pairing with both Android and iOS devices.

Customization: Includes four preset programs and adjustable ambient sound control. However, it lacks an EQ and automated hearing loss calibration.

Sound Quality: Effective at managing background noise and sudden sounds, though occasional feedback loops or audio artifacts (static sounds) were noted. We were able to overcome this by playing with the noise reduction setting in the app. 

Our Take

The ELEHEAR Alpha Pro is a solid entry-level hearing aid, offering mature background noise suppression and a user-friendly design. While it may lack the customization features seen in higher-end models, such as tailored sound frequencies, it compensates with strong foundational sound quality and simplicity in use.

For individuals willing to engage with its features and make adjustments, the Alpha Pro can provide a solid (and affordable) hearing experience. Does Elehear compete with market leaders on sound quality and robust features? Not yet. Still, it’s one of the best sub-$500 devices on the market.
