Background

Signia is part of WS Audiology, the third-largest hearing aid manufacturer in the world, and their range of hearing aids offers a host of impressive features and technologies that make them stand out. The newest of these is the Integrated Xperience (IX) technology. The word "Integrated" is key here as these new devices offer multiple beam-forming capabilities to follow multiple conversations simultaneously. Traditional beam-forming technology narrows in on one conversation at a time, but many conversations involve numerous speakers.

What Makes Signia Pure Charge&Go IX Special?

Size and Shape

Signia's flagship Pure Charge&Go IX product is one of the smallest behind-the-ear style hearing aids on the market. The device itself sits comfortably behind the ear, and the tiny receiver wire is barely visible even if you are looking.

Battery Life

One key aspect of Signia's hearing aids that distinguishes them from others is their battery life. Their Signia Pure Charge&Go IX RIC hearing aids last up to 36 hours on a single charge. Additionally, Signia's dexterity-friendly charging options ensure that even individuals with limited hand mobility can power up their devices effortlessly. Charger options include a convenient travel charger, integrated dehumidifier charger, or even a UV light to disinfect.

Advanced Tech

Signia uses dual processing chips inside their devices to separate speech from noise. That additional power also creates the foundation for Signia's 2023 beam-forming update for multiple speakers.

One of our favorite features inside Signia Pure Charge&Go IX hearing aids is Own Voice Processing (OVP). OVP records your voice and actively reduces its level of amplification. This adjustment is small on its face but greatly impacts comfort - many wearers don't want to hear themselves booming through their hearing aids.

Bluetooth LE Audio Compatible

Signia Pure Charge&Go IX is currently Bluetooth LE-audio ready for iPhones and Androids.

Our Take

Signia's crisp, clear sound quality sets it apart in the world of hearing aids. Their innovative technologies, such as Own Voice Processing (OVP), offer a natural and comfortable listening experience by minimizing the sound of one's own voice. This is particularly helpful for new hearing aid users who may find their own voice to be too loud or unnatural during the hearing aid adjustment phase.

Signia's new technology is undoubtedly impressive, and with the app's assistance, it optimizes the ease of use for patients. The easy-to-use app can improve a patient's overall experience in wearing and managing their hearing aids, allowing for a better quality of life overall. We love their new features to help listeners with background noise.

Drawing from my experience as an audiologist, I have fitted a number of patients with Signia hearing aids and guided them in their journey to improved hearing. Every individual and their hearing loss is unique, and my mission is to find the hearing aid that best fits their specific needs and lifestyle.

The Signia Pure Charge&Go IX, with its advanced features and customization options, offers a new solution for those who struggle to follow conversations in background noise. Recently I had the opportunity to try it out for myself, and I'll be sharing everything you need to know about the newest Signia hearing aids.

About the Brand

Signia has a rich history of innovation in hearing aid technology. They have a strong reputation for producing high-quality hearing aids for all types of hearing loss and a range of lifestyles. They are constantly pushing the boundaries of what's possible, and the Pure Charge&Go IX boasts new technology that improves performance in background noise.

Signia, formerly known as Siemens, is now a proud part of WS Audiology, a manufacturer renowned for producing both Signia and Widex hearing aids. Signia continues to maintain its reputation for delivering high-quality products for those with mild to profound hearing loss.

The brand has made a particular impact with its stylish Styletto slim RIC, an embodiment of style and functionality that has transformed the aesthetics of hearing aids. Through continuous innovation and user-focused design, Signia strives to enhance auditory experiences and improve the quality of life for people with hearing difficulties.

Noteworthy Features

The Pure Charge&Go IX is designed with the same modern, sleek aesthetics of the previous AX generation. However, the processing within the device is the new feature that sets it apart. The newest hearing technology can be summed up in three words: analyze, augment, and adapt. The most noteworthy features include:

  • Signia Xperience chip: The new chip processes sound 10 times faster than its predecessor, allowing for improved speech understanding and reduced listening effort in challenging listening environments - even with multiple conversations.
  • Acoustic-motion sensors: These sensors detect motion and adapt the device's microphones accordingly. This means the hearing aids can focus on the direction of speech, even if the wearer is moving.
  • Own Voice Processing (OVP): OVP has been upgraded with an improved algorithm that better distinguishes between the wearer's own voice and external sounds. This results in a more natural and comfortable listening experience.
  • Beam-forming:  This feature helps in reducing background noise, allowing the wearer to focus on the conversation they want to hear.

Hands-On Experience

Signia IX Vs. Signia AX

As an experienced audiologist, I noticed some similarities between the Pure Charge&Go IX and its predecessor, the AX technology. This is not surprising, given that they share numerous features. However, the real game-changer with the new IX technology is the improvement it brings to speech in noisy environments. Their multi-beamforming technology, in theory, helps you to follow multiple conversations simultaneously. This is a situation that can be challenging for any hearing aid user. So how did it fare?

In my personal experience, I found that the Pure Charge&Go IX did provide a subtle improvement in these noisy settings. The difference wasn't earth-shattering, but it was noticeable nonetheless. The effect may vary as well, depending on the type of setting. I tried the hearing aids in a noisy restaurant and a crowded shopping center, and while the background noise was still present, my conversation partner's voice was more audible. The adaptive directional microphones also did a great job of following their movements as we walked through different areas.

So, what does this mean for potential users? If you're currently considering an upgrade or are in the market for new hearing technology, I'd highly recommend the Signia Pure Charge&Go IX, as it offers some clear benefits and improvements. However, if you've recently purchased new hearing aids, there's no immediate need to upgrade. The enhancements, while valuable, may not justify the investment if your current hearing aids are still serving you well.

Features That Stay The Same

From the previous technology, there are a few highlights that continue to stand out. Firstly, Signia's renowned Own Voice Processing technology, which helps patients adjust to their own voice and provides a natural sound experience. This feature is helpful, and I can attest to the difference I've noticed while wearing the technology, as well as what patients have reported in the office.

Next, another standout feature is the Signia Assistant in the Smartphone app.  This AI-powered virtual assistant provides helpful assistance in adjusting settings for specific listening environments, such as restaurants or concerts. If you find yourself in an environment where you're having difficulty, simply open the app feature and answer a few questions. The assistant feature then offers you changes to your hearing aid settings that you can try out in real-time. If you like the changes, you can keep them. Or if you don't find them helpful, simply try another suggested change.

Another noteworthy feature is the Signia app, which allows you to customize your listening experience. You can adjust the volume, adjust the bass and treble levels, and even adjust your microphone setttings to pick up sounds directly in front, to the left or right, or wherever your intended conversation partner is located. This is particularly helpful in noisy environments, where it can be difficult to hear the person next to you. Many patients love this app feature, so it's definitely something you should try out.

Rechargeability

The Pure Charge&Go IX also has great rechargeability. With a full charge, it can last for an amazing 39 hours (without streaming), or 34 hours (with 5 hours of streaming) making it convenient for those constantly on-the-go. You can easily get through your day, even if you're constantly streaming! Rechargeable batteries also eliminate the need for changing batteries at inconvenient times.

Finally, let's talk sound quality. I'd characterize Signia's sound quality as crisp and sharp with strong awareness of the surrounding environment. I like that speech comes to the forefront and feels crisp and easy to follow with Signia's sound processing. You can hear for yourself what Signia's sound quality is like in our Live Listen feature.

Who is not the best candidate for the Signia Pure Charge&Go IX?

Despite the many benefits of the Signia Pure Charge&Go IX, it may not be the best fit for everyone. If you prefer a hearing aid powered by a disposable battery, or if you're seeking the latest advancements in Behind-The-Ear (BTE) or Custom In-The-Ear (ITE) hearing aids, it's essential to note that the current version of Signia's IX technology is exclusively available in Receiver-In-Canal (RIC) or Silk Completely-In-Canal (CIC) models. Therefore, those with preferences for different types of hearing aids might want to explore other options like Starkey Genesis AI.

Additionally, Signia does not offer a "Find My Hearing Aids" feature, which can be a dealbreaker for some users. This feature is helpful if you tend to misplace your hearing aids frequently and rely on an app to locate them. In this case, seeking alternative options with similar features may be recommended.

Though there are many great reasons to consider Signia hearing aids, these are a few things to consider before making your final decision. It's always important to consider your specific needs and preferences before making a purchase. You can compare other hearing aid features in the Soundly Scorecard comparison tool.

Final Thoughts

Signia Pure Charge&Go IX represents the latest in hearing aid technology, offering subtle but noticeable improvements in speech discernment within noisy environments. Its strengths lie in its innovative features, such as multi-beamforming technology, adaptive directional microphones, and the Signia Assistant feature in the smartphone app. The hearing aid also boasts excellent rechargeability and crisp sound quality.

However, it's important to note that this device, currently available only in Receiver-In-Canal (RIC) and Silk Completely-In-Canal (CIC) models, may not appeal to individuals who have a preference for Behind-The-Ear (BTE) or Custom-molded In-The-Ear (ITE) hearing aids or those who require a "Find My Hearing Aids" feature. Therefore, potential users should weigh these considerations against their personal needs and preferences before making a purchase decision.
